FEEL GOOD MONEYTREE
Users grow thier trees and harvest their virtual money. Based on a house with light moving around from east to west, with a water source. There are mock stores. everything can be purchased. Everything! Users to add products not already available through the patent office. 1 variable, is the price of the object on top of the name.
Like tribalwars the idea should be about producing 'goods' and somehow trading them for More. Abundance being the idea. Users collect, combine and give their 'goods'. This game should be like life. Based in Realtime like tribalwars.
Scott suggests we learn PHP. Dan do you know any already? I agree we need to know what we are doing. Can we do something like this though?

It could be Flash for the tree but simple stuff for the goods and such. Although simple is better.
You don't necessarily have to know enough flash to make the code, but things like resource properties would be in the code rather than the database to avoid straining the server with too many calls.
Plus to understand what's happening in the game sequentially when you want to implement features. Lots of players creates tricky timing issues.
Not entirely sure if a patent office would be a good idea. It would require someone to constantly review the entries, otherwise you end up with 10,000 dildo patents. Plus there is a limit to how many original items you can have in a game.
You'll need to come up with a basic item system.
Plus what is game play going to be like? Are you planning on facilitating certain styles of play? In a market style game yo could have trade routes, marketing, production, research. You should make yourself familiar with the other trading games out there to see what works and what doesn't.
Of course the original trading game is Seth Able's Planetes: TEOS (The Exploration of Space). Pre-internet, was played over BBSs.
err... I meant to say you don't have to learn enough PHP to make the code
Where is Steve in all this? I'm thinking on this Cusper, seeking inspiration. Knawmean?
